Frequently asked questions

Questions we hear often

Straightforward answers, in plain language.

No. You can create your own client login, accept monitoring consent yourself, and connect bank accounts through Plaid. Your profile belongs to the firm shown during signup, whose authorized staff operate the monitoring service. If you already work with a Vigilare advisor, ask them about your existing profile before creating a new one.

A referral does not create an account or authorize monitoring. Ask your advisor whether a client profile already exists for you. They can arrange your login and explain the consent process before you connect accounts.

Not at all. Many advisors recommend Vigilare to a wide range of clients as a proactive step — not in response to any particular concern. It's offered as something worth considering, not a reaction to something they've noticed.

No. Your advisor thought you'd want to know this exists, but signing up is entirely your decision. There's no obligation, and no downside to deciding it's not for you right now.

Mainly two kinds of things: gradual changes in day-to-day financial habits that can be an early sign of cognitive decline, and sudden, unusual activity — like a new, unfamiliar payment — that can be a sign of a scam or financial exploitation. Both are compared against your own typical patterns, not against anyone else's. The cognitive-decline side is calibrated against independent research from Georgetown University, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and other academic and government institutions — not something we invented ourselves.

That will happen sometimes, and it's expected. Vigilare isn't a diagnosis — it's a reason for someone in your circle to check in. A flagged pattern might turn out to be a big gift to a grandchild, an unusual but perfectly ordinary purchase, or any number of normal explanations. Whoever's in your circle will simply ask.

Sometimes. If you've connected accounts through Plaid before — through apps like Venmo, Coinbase, or many banking apps — Plaid may already recognize you, and you can often link your accounts in seconds with just your phone number. If this is your first time using Plaid, you'll do a quick one-time sign-in with each bank instead. Either way, it's usually just a couple of minutes.

Whichever ones make sense for you — often checking, savings, and any investment accounts you'd like included. If you've added an advisor to your circle, it's worth a conversation with them too, but the choice is yours.

No. Once your accounts are connected, there's nothing further for you to do. Vigilare works quietly in the background.

Only if you've added them to your circle of care. Vigilare never contacts family members directly or shares your information with anyone outside the circle you've chosen — and you can update who's included at any time.

It depends on how you enroll — reach out to us directly and we'll walk you through current pricing. If you're enrolling through a financial advisor's firm, it may already be included as part of your relationship with them.

Reach out to us directly at any time, or through your advisor if you've included one in your circle. Your connection will be removed and your data deleted within 72 hours — no explanation required.
